These stats for the US are beyond abysmal. 😭 How? How is this possible? How is this acceptable? Do better America! Maybe let’s work the problem. Instead of using literacy stats to determine how many prisons are needed—Maybe we could work on IMPROVING literacy stats. And, in turn, reduce prison populations. Maybe we could READ to children MORE. Maybe we could make book ownership important. Maybe we could intentionally spend time reading WITH our children. America needs a literacy RESET! If you’d like to work the problem and make a difference, start by READING ALOUD to your child 5 minutes/day. Then build up to 15 minutes/day. Get books for you and your child to read. Utilize your local library and Little Free Libraries.
